good sounding speakers 6x9s

just like to hear some opinions on some loud good sounding marine 6x9s,my buddys tell me to just buy car gear but im an atlantic fisherman and the car gear we use on the boat wont stand up to even a little bit of fog,what do you think?

Jensen, & Pioneer, are a couple of good reasonablly priced speakers. I really don't know if boat speakers are different, except for the fact that usually they're painted white. They all seem to weather, & rust away anyway.

Stick to marine. They have no celulose based products in them to break down when wet plus they have more UV resistance. Sony makes some really nice marine 6x9s that are not too expensive. If you want some awesome sound, I always go with Bose Environmental 151s. They are a small box speaker you can put anywhere, have a long warranty and though a little pricey, well worth it in IMO. I have actually played them with water sitting in the cones (speakers were facing up) multiple times and 6 years later, they still sound like new.

Go with the Bose for pure sound if price isn't an issue. Also stick with marine rated speakers as they are designed for the environment.

Bang on.... Car audio is not designed for the moisture and weather conditions typical in a marine application

Definitely go marine, but try to match them up with your radio/amplifier as much as possible. Oval speakers aren't as efficient as round ones, so if you're a little short on power, you might not have the bass response that you want. I'm not talking ghetto bass thumping, just a nice full sound at low-mid volume. Look at frequency response too. Needs to be at least 60 on the bottom end and 12000 or so on top. Some show numbers like 30-20,000 but that's more than your ears can deal with (at least on the high end...but your dog might like it) so they're not really worth any extra money, IMO.

Im with thunderroad on this one. If you have the option (like no hole cut yet) go with a good set of component speakers (round). JL and Pioneer make a solid set. MB Quart is a hisoricaly fine audio company and all offer a marine line.

Polyplanar offers a pretty fair deal on a marine oval. Moderately priced, solid construction and designed specially for marine use.

They have a pretty wide selection to offer.

A pair of Bose 151SE's will fit nicely under the gunnels though.... I've had a pair of these for about 4 years now and the really rock. Only three bones a set.

Throw about 200 watts to em to get that sweet sound you'll be looking for for another two bones.
