Parked the new boat in the garage yesterday afternoon as it looked like it might rain. Half hour later it started to snow, then it really started to snow. Blizzard for the next four hours. I wanted to try a maiden voyage this weekend but my wife says not a chance. Forecast is for a high of 32 degrees on Sunday. How bad can it be?:)

Re: Good timing

I would just tell my wife this. I'll bring a friend with me just incase. I would never take a maiden voyage alone. Double check everything before even heading out. Yea it will be cold but if something doesn't work, atleast you'll have the winter to get it fixed.

Re: Good timing

That's a good thought. I would never take a maiden voyage alone but threatening to take someone else will probably change her mind. I think she likes the boat more than me.

Re: Good timing

it's nice when things work out for a change. i bought a cover for my boat a few weeks ago. we've been in a drought for over a year. the day i get the cover, it starts raining on me as i'm putting it on the boat...has barely stopped since. my old cover was all ripped up too, would have been a soaking boat by now.

careful with that maiden voyage. things have a way of acting up in the cold. are you going to warm the engine on the hose first?

I'm located in Golden, B.C., Canada. It's too early for snow here. Normally first snow is the end of October & usually melts again until we get in to December. I will definitely be starting boat at home & warming it up before leaving. Thanks for responses.

I thought you must have been in Canada. We too get our first big snowstorm in Late October. We are in Northern Michigan one hour south of the Mackinaw Bridge. Sorry to hear you didn't get to make the maiden voyage. But at least you did get your new boat inside before the storm hit. I hope you do get to make at least one trip before winter really does arrive. However if the boat is still winterized. I would have to think seriously about using it this late in the year.

Re: Good timing

That was a quick fall!

Yea. This was such an abrupt change, that I hope nothing gets damaged on my Merc 500. I had changed the lower unit gear lube a week ago, so it had only one outing since. After four months of use, it had a minute amount of moisture mixed in it. I never detected any leaks after replacing the shift shaft seal and plug gaskets in the Spring. I gave the lower unit, leg and block a little extra help with some compressed air too. Eventhough it self drains to an extent with the motor vertical, some water still pools in some areas. The compressed air got most of it out.

Got snow here too, about 5 hours from Golden. The forecast for Monday was looking nice for a while, but now its changed and it's around freezing all next week. Looks like she's all over.

Re: Good timing

It sounds as if I'm in good company. Oh well now I can lurk here for the next six or seven months & learn lots. Thanks for the replies.

Wow, we live in such different places. Low 90's today. Just got back from tubing with the family. Stay warm, safe, and enjoy the maiden voyage!!

Re: Good timing

Was in Cocoa Beach this past January. While visiting Flaorida I wanted my kids to set foot in the Atlantic and the gulf. We went to Clearwater the next day. It was cold but we enjoyed it.
