Google has been resisting the government request since August.
The internet search engine Google is resisting efforts by the US Department of Justice to force it to hand over data about what people are looking for.
Is this not the very pattern of behavior which we would like the governments of Iran and China to discontinue?

Looking at the coin from a different angle is a fellow by the name of john Cavanaugh from Raleigh, NC.

"Google is wrapping itself in the flag - so to speak. Defending privacy etc.

This is all well and good, but this is pure hypocrisy. This same company censors data in China and has provided information to Chinese officials on dissident activity.

They will fight to defend child pornography in the West (as free speech?), but will cave in to pressure against democracy when it suits their business."

Well the last time I looked, China, Russia and Iran are pretty much in bed with each other.
So your saying we should turn a blind eye?
Get intel where you can and worry about the rest later.

The gov’t does not want the info for security reasons. They want Google to pay to do the gov’t research for them. If Google was offered a fair price for the data I’m sure they would sell it to the gov’t.

Don't know how true it is, but Google claims by giving up the data, it will also be giving away something about it's software which is proprietary and a "trade secret". So, the argument is not necessarily about the principle of the government's demand, as much as protection of their software.

Like I said, this is what I heard this morning, don't know how true it is.

If you want to call the right for Americans to defend their freedoms "Bush Bashing" then so be it.
The point which you have turned your "blind eye" to is, successive adminstrations of the USA have at least since the end of WW2, been at the forefront of propagating and protecting freedom and human rights across the globe, now we are faced with the arguement that these freedoms may not be in the interest of America to retain for its citizens.

I am not aware of any rights to privacy guaranteed by the Constitutions of China, Russia or Iran.

What Google does about them is completely irrelevant. What they do with information about our Googling here is relevant.

Interesting how crowing about freedom and liberty turns to a croak when it involves freedom to do something you disapprove of.

Again: You go, Google. :)

Yahoo has given the government what it wanted and big brother watches you on Yahoo.
I rather enjoy my freedom rights on Google.
If Bush tramples the constitution I will bash him!

Since rights and privacy are an issue, I don't think it would take that much effort to get the information from live child porn freaks.

I know I will take some heat on this but Google $ucks!
IMHO on of the reasons that they do not want to give up this info is because it will show how their search engine functions. Like how to get the top listing from a search you have to pay them.
