Re: Google searches!

Also, in CCleaner, are there any of the items in the ADVANCED section that I should check before running it?

Nope, nothing checked in CC Options,Advanced. You don't want to keep any files in your temp directory, regardless it they are newer than 48 hours. I don't need to be reminded to backup registry issues etc. BTW, do a reboot after cleaning both the Cleaner and Registry tabs. Keep running Registry until it comes back with 100% done with nothing found.

As for MIE (Microsoft Internet Explorer), it's noted for allocating huge amounts pf storage space for the temp file etc. I knock that down to 5megs. Remember , the larger your cache file, the longer it takes to sort through it to find a previously accessed site just to get the URL. It's faster in most cases to let the browser hit the DNS server and look it up rather than wait to wade through the temp file, which can make the browser seem faster, and usually is.
Also in MIE
Click Tools
Internet Options
Temporary Internet OPtions section
Click Settings
Make Amount of disk space to use= 5 megs
On View Objects tab
Look at list, if any entries are marked as Unknown, blow them away

Re: Google searches!

Make sure you are searching from www.google.com and not from a google entry box on your home page or something of the like. They are different. A google box embedded in a page is sponsored and will bring up a search of paid sponsors first before the real results. I have never used the google task bar but would not trust it either. Just go to the legitimate google site.

Adjuster, I do not use the google task bar. I have google in my favorites and did verify that it was at Google.com.

I see now. I was reading the descriptions of the search results, not the links. Yea, you got critters. Good advice so far. I can't really add anything that hasn't already been said.

Also check the Auto complete form history box on the main page of CCleaner. In options settings, check the Recycle Bin option, that way you can right click on recycle bin and run ccleaner whenever you feel like it without having to actually double click on the program. You can select the run cleaner on start up too but that will slow your start up time some. You really need to post a hijackthis log so we can see what all you have got on that puter. Don't worry, it won't show any personal stuff.

I forgot to add. Open window explorer (right click on start-select explore) select folder options under the tools drop down. Click on the view tab, check show hidden files and folders.

Re: Google searches!

Ok, I've done all with CCleaner as Xcusme outlined, and I ran HijackThis as NoKlu suggested.

How can I display the results (the log). I think NoKlu intended to give me a link to do that but it does not work.

I did run the Scan on the log contents and it did not check any boxes.

Copy and paste the whole log onto the reply box.

Re: Google searches!

So far, with 21% scanned, Panda has come up with 12 infected files.

I'd still like to know what happened to the Hijacked log file that I posted this morning?

Re: Google searches!

Well Panda came up with several moderate threats, after an hour plus, then want to charge me to take care of most of them. Would have been nice if they had stated that at the outset.
