i have a 1964 evinrude 40hp motor!!!!!!!

1. What color is the kill wire that runs to the key and where does it go on the key switch??? (4 post key switch) (factory harness) I can start the motor but cant shut it off.

2. Should I have the auto choke on lean or rich when running in the summer????

3. Where do all the wires go on the harness that ends at the key switch (factory harness) (color to tach please)? I tried to find them out myself but only found a couple. I ordered a book for it but its on back order for 3 weeks.. It sucks big time but got onto the lake and drove around burned a tank of gas... lol it was nice just had to cover the carb to shut it off... lol hey it worked and got me on the lake.... thanks

That motor has two killer wires from under the flywheel to the ign switch. They connect together to kill motor.

The lean/rich is the setting for the automatic choke. If it is working properly, you should never change it, after it is set. On a cold motor, set the throttle to 1/2 open, motor not running, and turn the auto choke adjustment until the choke plate just closes. Start and run normally, and check the choke plate. It should be wide open when the motor is warm.

Tach wire is same as killer wire, but you need a special tach for that magneto motor.
