So I've been plugging holes in the transom, trying to get everything done that I can, I really want to put at least one coat of paint on the boat before I floating.

This morning the wife asks how everything is going and I gave her the straight scoop, there's still stuff to be done. I made the mistake of calling off my list:

1. Fix the transom holes properly.

2. Lower the outboard one hole so the splashwell can drain.

3. Have the mechanic go over the motor for maintenance.

4. Finish re-wiring the mess that was there before.

5. Install the new instrument panel.

6. Install some interior lights.

7. Install the new bigger gas tank (for those long camping trips).

8. Fix some of the chips in the hull and put on some new blue paint.

Oh man did I get it, I'll paraphrase....

"
We bought this boat so we could go out on the lake, if you try to get it perfect then we will never get to go boating until next year. The previous owner took it out all the time and never had a problem, but you have to tweak it until it's perfect and by then it will be winter again!!!.

Finish the important stuff so we can go out on the lake as soon as it warms up, I'm tired of putting money into this...
"

So now I have to shorten my list for this summer, I think I have it down to this:

1. Fix the holes in the transom (almost done).

2. Lower and maintenance the motor.

3. Install the new gas tank.

4. Install the instrument panel.

5. Wire in the lights and panel.

Go boating and then do the hull when the summers over, that way I can stay out of trouble...

I told her if she wanted to go so badly we should have just bought a new one, and those larsons sure look nice on the showroom floor :D

Time to go work before I get in more trouble....

My wife is beginning to have that kind of mind. Which is nice if you think about it? It's better than someone not wanting to go boating period. Good luck.... finish up already!!!

Sounds like you need another boat! One that you can use, and another that you can work on. Err, is that one you can use while you work on it, and another you can just work on. Or is that working on one while you... ahhh, heck with it. You'll always be working on something no matter how you work it...

Yeah, I was gonna say, better have a backup boat... then you work on the one, sell the first or hide it when you're done working, at which point you buy boat number 3 to work on :)

Better yet, get a crappy 2nd boat like I have. Take her out in it as much as possible. The smaller the better. The more uncomfortable she is, the more she'll be on board with getting your project done. Make sure you do some puttering around the marinas on a Saturday. Let plenty of people in their fancy boats see her in your little boat. Women are jealous creatures by nature.:D

Re: Got Busted Big Time!!!

Maybe I'm just lucky - yesterday I had the wife give me 6+ hours of cleaning out the leaves and dirt from the aluminum shell I call a boat (interior is gutted), which I then pressure washed. Then we cleared out the garage to make room for the beast so it won't get so dirty again.

I feel your pain, man. We went out on my dad's 16 footer the other weekend and now she's got the bug. I told her our boat will be ready quicker if she helps out. Now she's convinced we can get the trailer refurb'd, hull painted, new transom, deck, and all interior wood replaced, and motor and controls in by Labor Day.
