Put four 5hp rudes on the float tube, it don't go to fast forward but it sure spins in a cirlce real well.

I heard NASA was replacing their solid fuel rocket boosters with a bunch of E-tec's mounted on the space shuttle's wings... Supposed to get the shuttle airborne much faster and require less maintenance. Turn-key winterizing too I hear. Would come in handy for the coldness of space

I just about pee'd myself when i read that post...thanks for the late day laugh, I actually laughed out loud.

Re: the pic with the 8 e-tecs on the back. I read an article once that showed that same boat and apparently it was being used to run drugs back and forth from US to Canada. (or it might have been the police using it to catch the runners - can't remember)

That's a pretty classic boat picture... it's even discussed on snopes.com here:

In short, a summary is that:

1) It's a real boat
2) It was used for drug running in europe/the mediterranean
3) The manufacturer sold too many of these boats in deals to smugglers, and was put out of business (and on trial) for it.

Reading through some information here and there, I'm thinking that while a 32 foot boat with four 300s is extreme and expensive, it might actually be close to the speed he quotes.

There are other boats (a 32 foot fountain) with twin 300s that make up to 110Mph in races.

That fuel tank size would weight about 2 tons full, but on a 36 foot boat that's possible. There's also space for it.

So don't get too deep into your disbelief... if this guy is wealthy, he could well have a jon boat, flats boat, and this boat all with e-tec motors......

Yeah . . . uhh, but, like duuuude, I'm going with 45 Auto's 98 MPH with 4 300 Mercs . . . Horsepower is horsepower, and in the case of these OBs weight is pretty dern comparable. You just don't gain 27 MPH with a little tail wind or even 200 extra bhp . . . Not gonna happen.

Edit: I just got it. His GPS was set to Kilometers per hour. Sorry. Understandable mistake . . .

I know it seems unlikely, but I'm just saying it's possible.

You don't pick that up with a tailwind, but you could with a different boat hull maybe... it sounds like that setup would be for "poker runs" so the boat might be stripped to nothing, set up for only speed.

Funny what you can do if you strip down a boat and modify for speed. There's a guy I read posts from who's modifying a PWC to go 100+ MPH with a custom prop and rudder assembly... he's got it up to 107 mph so far.

...my buddy just put a couple of Etecs on his Harley....its sweet. He blew this GSXR1100 running a couple of Johnson Ocean Pro's right off the road.
Completely amazing....Coast guard have not,....I repeat NOT been able to catch him.

The transom on a 2008 36? Contender Open looks to be about 6 ? 6 1/2 feet across. http://www.contender.com/uploadedFiles/Our_Fleet/36-O/36Open.pdf Their recommendation is Maximum of 900 HP Twin or Triple. It MAY be possible to fit quad E-TECHs on it though it wouldn?t be insurable. Contender reports 57 MPH with triple 250s. So another 450 HP, (less than double the 750 HP on the test boat), will more than double the top speed? I don?t think the laws of physics support that contention. Where does one go to find a prop somewhere around 41? pitch that fits a stock lower unit? Wouldn?t that make idle speed somewhere around 20 MPH? Has anyone broken 120 MPH with stock lower units? Just curious.

I think everybody's getting stir-crazy waiting to get back out on the water. Gonna be busy the next couple of weeks but hope to be out the first week in April.

Thought anyone bored enough to read this thread might find this from the Florida Fishing Weekly interesting ....

there is a guy by me in sarasota in a 38' fountain with 4 300 verados on it. I would not even want to think about the gas on it. I got a pick of the 39' sea vee with 4 mercs on it 570 gallons 4 tanks. Damn i thought my sea fox with 2 200's and 150 gallons was alot!
