The marina where I keep my boat raised my moorage rates by over 20% so I went to move the boat to another marina which is actually closer to home yesterday and bang! I didn't see anything in front of me and just after the loud bang two halves of the 8" diameter log popped up behind me. I tilted the dives up and checked the props everything looked ok. So I started back up no vibrations at idle got back on a plane no vibrations but I had a significant list to port that couldn't be corrected with the trim tabs. when I got to the dock at the new marina and looked under the swim step the port side trim tab was gone.

I just got back from having a diver go under the boat and all that was damaged was the port side trim tab was torn off but the section that attatches to the hull and all mounting screws were still intact. Also the hydraulic ram was still usable the attaching pin in the lower end broke clean and didn't damage the ram at all. The local vessel assist owner has a tailer that is big enough for my boat so after the parts show up next week he offered to help me pull it out put the parts on and get it right back in. so alls well that ends well. and if anyone needs a log splitter please don't call me one is enough.

Re: got lucky

Does anyone happen to know what model of tab this is. The bennett site doesn't show a pic of this tab it is different than the picture they show of thier standard tab because it bends up on the sides and has the mounting point in the center not the back edge of the tab. it is I think if the divers measurements are right 18"x12".

Re: got lucky

Well I found out Bennett makes custom tabs for each boat manufacturer. After a call to Monterey boats I got thier original part number Bennett is making me a new tab and I should have it on Monday of next week.:D

The people at both Bennett and Monterey were both very helpful. Bennett gave me a military discount $110 for the tab free lower hinge for the ram and 3 day shipping charge for a total of $165. All things considered I got off easy.

Didn't you hit something about a year ago too? Man, I'd get my butt kicked up there. Just not used to that much floating debris . . .

Yes, Bennett is pretty darn good at support. I am curious if the same can be said for Lenco as that would be another thing to consider when we are giving out trim tab advice.

Ayuh,.... The folks a Bennett are right up there with the folks at Smart Tabs for customer Service,....
Too bad more companies don't have the same business model, eh,..??

Yes it's the down side to boating in the winter all the logs and debris from the rivers find thier way into the Puget Sound.

Maybe I should rename my boat "The Log Splitter"".
