OK thanks for the help on locating the ser # tag now that I have it I'm trying to figure out what the size, HP, year etc so that when I start working on this thing I can be sure I'm getting the right parts, since it is not running. If someone could help be decipher the ser # below

B831098, it is an inline 4 that is in a '91 Glasstream 18' bowrider

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS Happy Memorial day - from a Desert Storm Vet to all those who came before me and those who will come after THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!

Is that common to find that big a differnce year models from the drive unit to the year it is put into a boat? or is there a chance that this is not the original engine. The boats HIN indicates that it was built in 90 and is a 91 model boat.

Don I've read alot of your posts and realize that you have probably forgotten more than I will know about boats. The back ground on this is as soon as I get the registration straightened out on this boat I plan to restore it since I got it for FREE. (the man's wife said "you got a new boat the old one has got to go, I don't want it sitting in my yard anymore") So if I find that the engine is a gonner can a I6 or V6 go in it's place? The reason I ask is if so this would open up the possibilities for me to find a replacement, such as a rebuildable one? This boat is going to be a awsome project for my 15yo and myself for the summer.

No, it's not uncommon to find a spread in years like this from time to time. But in this particular case your engine serial number is not matched to your boats description you have given us above.

This engine serial number started life in a 1988 16 foot REGENCY THUNDERCRAFT BOAT out of florida.
So my guess is this is not going to be the original engine.;):)

To change to anything other than a 4cyl.you would have to change motor mounts, exhaust, gears in the drive and more. Not really worth the trouble.J
