Re: Got New 4.3 From Rapido Marine Today

I do appreciate every ones input here. I won't be disassembling the engine to double check Rapido Marines rebuild job. This isn't rocket science here. Basic assembly done by a reputable shop on a simple engine is good enough for me. That's why I dealt with them and didn't buy a "mass produced" remanufactured engine from ATK or Marshall or Jasper. I had a conversation with the owner (Raul) and we discussed what I wanted and he built it for me. That kind of service, along with a good reputation, is what I wanted. I've seen a few problems from time to time with rebuilt engines from various rebuilders, but it's rare, and that's what a warranty is for. I'm pretty sure tearing down the engine will void my warranty. I'm willing to take the small risk that they screwed something up and install the motor without checking every clearance and such. Heck, that's why I didn't buy a used engine and lug it all to the machine shop and all that. Again, I really appreciate every ones input. Here's a pic of the boat it's going in. All Welded Aluminum ( deck too!) little 19' Fisher. Watch out Rockfish in the Chesapeake Bay!

Nice boat. Should move along nicely with the 4.3.

So I called Raul at Rapido and asked him about the head gaskets today. He said they are Fel-Pro Marine gaskets. I told him I had posted some pics of the engine on here. He was happy to say that he gets lot's of business from iboat guys. He also said that he'd knock off 10% to anyone ordering a motor in the next couple months 'til spring. Mention iboats when you call. He's a good guy who apparently stands behind his product. It's nice to find a small business that works hard for and is responsive to their customers. So far so good!

Thanks Marc c. I call this my "Yankee boat" because aluminum boats are so popular up North ( I see you're from The Great White North). Got tired of trying to find a cheap little fishing boat ( paid $900 with the '04 EZ Loader) that didn't have a bunch of rot hiding somewhere in the fiberglass. This thing only has one piece of wood ( bolted to the transom ) and it's nice and solid. Stringers and all are aluminum. .090 hull thickness. Apparently the dry weight is 1265 lbs. for this boat with a 90hp Mercury outboard ( according to a 1993 Fisher brochure with specs. ) I'm thinking it will fly with a 4.3 4bbl.!

What do you mean Scott? What's the difference between glycol cooled car/truck engines and glycol cooled marine engines? ( I hope I'm right....)

Please do not give bad information.

Thats not bad info, its the truth, in a fresh water cooled (antifreeze) motor an ordenary automotive head gasket is just fine, no need for fancy and expensive stainless gaskets.
