I got a 2-stroke Suzuki DT25 (Model No:02503-132880).

And I had the following problem...

I had the first boat run for this Summer few days back. Before I went to sea I gave the engine a 15' warmup with the "ear muffs" (see attached pic) and since all went well I took the boat in the open sea (see attached pic).

After 15' of nice boat ride, the engine stopped by it self (while at 75% throttle). I started it again and thought of doing some tests. I went full throttle for 1'-2' then I slowed down and put it on neutral. The engine then stopped again. after countless efforts the battery died out. I tried pulling the cord (with and without the ignition on) and nothing happened.

After a while a friend came out and towed me back to the port...

Perhaps the battery was not in a good condition as it had not operated since last summer. But it started the boat on shore and on sea with out an issue.

I also expected that while the engine was running it would have charged up the battery.

What do you think the problem is and how to solve it?

Check compression and spark on all cylinders. If that is good the look at the fuel. Carbs and pump.
Does the motor have an alarm system and does it work? When was the last time you changed the water pump or thermostat?
How old is the fuel?
Did you have 2 Stroke oil in the fuel?
When was the last time you charged the battery or checked to see if the motor charges the battery. simple task to hook up a voltmeter and see if voltage increases when motor is running

To me, what you are describing is a carb that is running out of fuel.
Restriction in the fuel system?
Gas tank not venting or anti-siphon(if you have one) valve malfunctioning?
Did you try to squeeze the primer bulb to try to keep it going?

I might be wrong, but once the motor is running, even if the alternator is not putting out and the voltage drops, the motor shouldn't die.
(Somebody correct me if I am wrong)
