Ok...so I tore into the carbs tonight after people suggesting cleaning the carbs from a starting issue I had with the boat, and only wanting to start using the manual over-ride on the primer solenoid. The boat has gas in it, but I dont know how long its been sitting.

Anyways, I took the carbs off tonight...The linkage is still on them...but here is one thing...I took the air cover off and gas starting draining out of the bottom of the cover...is that normal? I saw some kind of line (fuel, or vacuum??) on the bottom of the cover...what is that for exactly? Anyways, the gas that came out of the carbs was real green looking and almost has a water feel to it here and there.

I am getting rebuild kits for the carbs, but maybe someone can offer tips, and or answer the questions from above?

If I remember correctly, the small line on the bottom of the air silencer is to route excess fuel to the intake manifold and not let it run overboard. Sometimes fuel will run out of the carbs when the engine is tilted up, or you could have carb with a float or needle and seat problem allowing fuel to overflow a little bit. Make sure and check your float levels when you overhaul your carbs.

yes...I will def check the levels. I am hoping that taking this apart and replacing with the kits new parts will resolve the issues I am having. The carbs are off, but I havent taken them apart yet. I need to get ahold of the kits first. I went by the boat store...but they didnt have them in...only had them online. I am going to check with another place tomorrow when they open. Any other tips??

If you are having problems finding the kits, you can probably order them right here. Go to the top of the page and click on marine parts, do a search for carb kits.

See it alot. If you can't boil the carbs, you can use spray cleaner and compressed air to clean them. Make sure you clean all the passages and jets.

yeah...they wont be hot tanked. I may do the soaking them over night thing...but i may spray them real good and see if I cant get the passage ways cleaned as best as possible. Im not used to really fooling with carbs, so I didnt know if this type of gunking is what "gummed" up looks like.

You can double check the flow out of all the passages on the carbs: Use an aerosol carb cleaner and spray it thru one carb orfice. Note the spray out of the outlet hole. Go on to the next carb and do the same passage. They should both spray the same out of the outlet holes. Then go on to the next carb, pick the next hole and repeat the process. That hose at the bottom of the airbox cover is a sort of recirculation hose. I makes sure any excess fuel in the airbox will get ingested into the engine #4 cylinder- and combusted.

ok...so I got the carb kit...it has many more o-rings and stuff than I even see on these carbs?? or even shown in the service manual.

Anyway...I was looking at the carb on one and noticed this little crack...It doesnt seem like it would hinder any performance, but what are your alls thoughts here is the crack

Looks like someone tried to unscrew it, I don't think you can take them out.
I don't think it will cause you any problems, I would go ahead and overhaul the carbs.
Some carb kits are made to cover several different carbs, sometimes there are spare pars in the kits, just use what you need out of the kit.

That junk inside your float bowl is the exact reason why people need to pay more attention to their carbs, "before" a problem comes up.

As I said in post #12, some kits are made to cover several different carbs and there are parts that will be left over. Use the parts in the kit that you need and leave the rest.

You WILL have parts in the kit that you do not use.

WEAR SAFETY GLASSES when spraying carb cleaner and using compressed air!

so with cleaning them..is the task mainly just to make sure that passages flow through ok, and that all debris and gunk is clean from the carbs? There doesnt seem to really be much adjusting you can do on them other than setting the float height, which I have read is not that hard of an issue to deal with.

Tear them apart, clean ALL passages and orifices, reassemble with new gaskets and seals, reinstall and crank it up.

Yup. CLEAN is the word.

Floats should be level with carb body held upside down.
