Got the Chris Craft home this evening. After seeing it in person i think i stole it!
The seller was a great guy.He was selling for the original owner who had Parkinsons disease. The titles were still in the original owners name from 1982 when he bought it new.It lived on the same lake since then.
He put i new battery in it for me today so i could here her run.
Pump the fuel bulb a couple times and it fired right up.

He said the trim did not work and the engine was stuck in the down position.I didn't want to tow it that way for 100 miles so i started investigating the trim.Found the connections behind the transom were a little corroded.Cleaned them up and hit the switch...Trim works great!
The guy just shook his head and smiled.

Uploading pics now...:D

Re: Got the new (to me) boat home

LOL... So far so good.
Cleaned on it till dark..whew.
I'll get the flashlight ang get the serial#
Any suggestions what would clean the hull? Already tried bleach, greased lightning and simple green...won't touch it.
I'm thinking they make a specific chemical for that..
The only thing i cant get working is the stern light and bilge pump...no big deal. This thing is built like a tank. The inside of the hull is painted grey and looks new..

Cool Gary! I was looking at one here recently too. What is the exact model number? I thought it was a Scorpion 210, but I am seeing some that are I/O's with that model . . .

Re: Got the new (to me) boat home

I knew you'd be headed to pick it up this morning!!

Try calling Alec http://www.salvagemarine.com/ for that lower-unit casing. He will ship anywhere and the price is almost always right.

Looks like it is in great shape!

As for the hull stains, try some muratic acid; I have sucessfully used it on several stubborn stains in my gelcoat that would not otherwise come out.

Can't wait to hear about the maiden voyage.:)

Thanks Studly,I'm going to try to get the lower off this week and see what the gears look like. The prop feels smooth and no play in the shaft..
It did have a thick coating of algea on the bottom.a bunch of it fell off on the way home.
If i can get the stains off i bet it will buff out nicely.I noticed there are a ton of hull cleaners online.

gary, try Formula 88 it's a degreaser, advance auto parts, $10.00 gallon. i've found it worked real well getting the old scum water stain off. i put in in a pump up garden sprayer, and work one area at a time. got the model #

Nice boat Gary...as far as the hull goes, nce you get it down to stains, try a product called Whink. You can get it in hardware stores (not Lowes or Home Depot - real hardware stores) or grocery stores. It's made for removing rust stains in bathtubs, sinks, etc., but it removes the "tea staining" on gelcoat on contact.

CLR won't do it, neither will Tilex, SoftScrub, Bleach, etc.. It will amaze you.

Re: Got the new (to me) boat home

i think the reason the Formula 88 works is that the surface water has the oil residue, which sticks to the hull and the rest sticks to it. just my theory, not scientific.

Nice boat Gary, I have a 210 from 1979, It's been a good boat. you might try using a scotch pad and some comet to get the stains off. you will have to buff it afterwords tho....
