Got the shaft from iboats (love it) bunk boads suppose to be loose?

I ordered the Seasense greaseable roller shafts from iboats and they came today. (fast shipping) These things are awesome, I would recommend them to anyone.

Now, about the bunk boards. I'm making my own replacements 2x6's and setting it up to the boat I can clearly see that when I lower the boat only the inner edge of the 2x6 will be touching the boat. If I use longer bolts and double nut it, but not tighten it up against the frame the 2x6 will be able to roll to match my deep V design when I retrieve the boat. Is this normal, or do I want to shim one side of the 2x6 bunk to match the deep V and have the bolts tight? Thanks (in advance).

My bunks are tapered and then carpeted. No shims.

Hey... Can't tell you how many houses I have built over the last 30 years, and have done all kinds of fancy cuts and angles I have made with my table and or chop saw. As soon as I read "my bunks are tapered" I knew what needs to be done here. Totally DUH here now. Figure out the angle, match it on the table saw, tilt the blade and problem solved! A totally embarrassing "thank you" Fl_Richard.

It may not match it 100% as there is a curve to the hull, but it would be a lot closer...

My table saw can't cut the angle needed (chit)! I need a 12 inch saw, mine are only 10 in. FoodFisher... yeah I can take a pic in post it in 30 secs.. but what is it your asking to see? Here is the bunk on the side I have not taken off yet. The metal that was there is rusted out under the carpet. The factory (guessing, as its hard to see what it was) had a half round metal under the carpet.

Here is the side I'm working on. Only doing one side at a time. With out the carpet, and that rusted metal under the 2x6, this is there is about 1 inch tapered down to about 1/4 inch difference between the wood, and the hull.

I know huh?? C-dorys are my first love. Theres a dealer about 35 miles from my house.. only thing keeping me from buying one right now is fear and common sense. (price tag of $79,000) But, when a used one comes up in my area.. (and they don't very often)... I'm going to pounce.

I'll wait. Seems obvious to me but wouldn't shims between the frame and 2x6 do the job?

It really wouldn't be shims, more like chunks of wood. I think (since I can't make a nice long cut with 1 2x6 that is going to be the best option. I wanted something cleaner looking, but gluing shims under and to the 2x6, and cover with carpet will be okay. Since I mainly launch in salt water, the less metal is best. Thank you FoodFisher.

Are you using green treated boats?

Can you make an adjustment to the steel mounts, and where there U bolted to the cross member? Just an idea.

Not really, that cradle that the bunk sits on has 2 Ubolts. The cross member tilts forward and back when launching and retrieving. At the base are feet that secure it onto the cross bar. What I ended up doing is ripping a 2x6 on my table saw, flipped it over and ripped it the other way. I stacked the ripped 2x6 on the one on the cradle. Perfect fit. Now, I'm waiting for my carpet to cover it so I can put my sterndrive back on.

What started out as just replacing the lower cable (a couple hour job) into some major repairs and into 2 weeks of waiting to parts. It's been mostly fun, with great help from this site.
