Im about half way there with the transom. Its getting warmer out now so i been able to spend more time on the boat on my days off. I got the old rottem transom out and got 2 pieces of 3/4 marine ply glued together. I was going to use regular ply from lowes but yesterday i made the decision to get the marine grade ply in 4' X 8' sheets. It was more expencive than the other stuff from lowes but this stuff is nice. It has 7 or 8 plies in it and there is no voids at all in any of the plies. This is really nice wood and im glad that i made the choice to spend a little extra money on it. Anyway i got the old stuff out and just barely got it out in 1 piece so i was able to use it as a template for the new wood. Ive added some links below to some pictures of the progress. Im going over to work on it some more today and will take some more pictures and hopefully tonight i will update my shareaproject page. I got the 2 pieces glued together and they have been sitting overnite with batteries and paint buckets and other stuff to hold the pieces together. Anyways here is the pics of the progress...

Re: Got the transom started.

I thought that i would have no problem getting 2 pieces of transom out of a 4' X 8' sheet, but i just barely made it. I mean I really barely was able to get 2 pieces out of the 1 sheet. I had to move the template i had made from the old wood around a few times over the new sheet of wood and scratch my head for a whyle before i was able to get it positioned right in order to get 2 cut outs from a single sheet. Ill add more pics tonight hopefully.

Re: Got the transom started.

ok Im home i have some pics of the transom. I used POLYURETHANE to bond the 2 pieces of transom. It is so strong that its not even funny! I love how its all going together. Here is some pics of how its going. They are links of my photobucket page. I think that this bond is going to be so strong!!!! and it looks good too!
Hay drewmitch looks good.... how many coats of poly did you use ?? John

Re: Got the transom started.

How i tried it and it didnt really work for me. U used a layer in between the pieces of ply and then all around the edges i put a thick layer on the ply's just on the edjes but that was a day later after the 2 piecs were pretty well cured. Im going to wrap the whole thing with mat and roving to keep the whole thing nice and dry. Its going to be a couple of days til i get to that so im going to be reading about exactially how im going to do that. Thanks for the encuragement guys. And im going to try that pic link if it dosent work ill try some other time.

Ayuh,......

Pull your pictures,+ Resize them down to 480pix,...
That way they'll still be big enough to See,+ Small enough to Fit the page......

Re: Got the transom started.

640 X 480 is optimal for forum viewing, some photo sites do this for you after you find the tool. A good freebie on the web for doing this is Irfanview...Google has many links to it.
