Re: Got ticketed for my trailer...

I hate that I have to renew registration every year for my boat. Only because it is so heavy and requires a heavier duty trailer than you otherwise would for an 18 foot boat do I need to, otherwise generally a small boat will allow for a lifetime registration. It's $15. Our ticket is for failure to display. So the tabs in the glove box is still faiure to display if the leo is being picky. Problem with going to court is the opportunity cost of your time and for a non driving violation that won't follow you...it's tough to justify.

Yes, seems odd. Only time I got pulled over for expired tabs, I had them in the truck. Officer said to make sure to put them on when I got home and sent me on my way.

Yep, I got pulled over in my company car once, for out of date sticker. (However, he already knew the registration was current, because he had run the plate.) Had it in the glove compartment, he let me get out on the spot and put it on, and told me to have a nice day.

This seems really unfair. I guess it depends on what it costs. If it's less than $50, probably better to just pay it, it will cost you more in time to go to court.

So the fine isn't all that bad and it can range, it is the $85 surcharge that would hurt the most. So I am looking at easily a $125 fine for not sticking a sticker to my plate that I had on hand. I will get to meet the Assistant DA.

Well that's not as bad as our 5% income surcharge they just enacted here. That is on top of the massive income tax increase. So I think that because it is a surcharge, we can ignore that we still have to pay it.

Wow...Remind me never go to to Minnesota. 5% is insane, maybe a lower less than 1% or something so it could scale, but 5% is nuts!

Well the massive tax rate increase is on income in the top marginal rate and the surcharge is for income over $500,000 which easily hits small business owners. We had a fake $600,000,000 dollar budget deficit and so the response was to raise taxes 4 times the deficit amount. The four surrounding states are happy though. It may be cold here but at least our taxes are high.
