Today I finally had a chance to put the boat I bought a month ago in the water lol. It's a 94 Aquatron 1800LX with a 3.0. I had to put a fuel pump on it, rebuild the carb, lube all the cables, adjust this fix that and so on. Found the trim gauge only works partially, say when it's all the way up and as you lower the gauge stops moving around the 3/4 up mark. Any ideas? The speedo doesn't work quite right but I'm not even concerned with that. The RPM gauge works but when I put it full throttle, though it was a very short time, it only got to around 2500 on the gauge. Weird thing is, it was just me and a buddy and we cruised planed out with gauge showing only 1200 RPM or so. I'm not sure if the RPM's would've climbed the longer I held it WOT but this is my first boat and honestly was a little timid. I took the boat out with just me and my buddy to make sure all was safe with the boat before the family went. The admiral wasn't too thrilled about it but thankful when I sent her a video of the gas leak. The new fuel pump apparently has a hairline crack in it which we found after running for about 30 minutes, I was not happy. Got to go outside now and pull it back off and go swap it out. Also I was more than a little nervous when I crossed the wake from another boat and it was rocking side to side and bouncing lol. I actually backed off and trimmed in cause it spooked me. I'll get used to it I guess. Any tips for boating from y'all more experienced peeps out there would be great.

Good stuff.

If you were up on plane then you were doing more than 1200 rpm, more like 2500-3000.
You should get that fixed so you won't possibly over rev it.

There might be dial on the back that points to several settings.
Try rotating it back and forth a few times and put it back to the original setting.
This sometimes fixes them.

On the back of the gauge itself? I'll have to crawl under there and look. At idle it seems to be pretty accurate, after the carb rebuild it idles in the water around 650-700 or so and listening to the motor that sounds accurate ish lol. Maybe the tach and trim gauge are having similar issues, only working to a certain point?

I knew the 1200 didn't seem right, I told my buddy hell if I can run around at this speed and RPM I'll never need to get gas lol. It jumped on plane pretty quick with just us too, will find out about more people in the boat come Memorial Day weekend.

A couple other observations I just thought about. The voltage gauge is also weird, it shows higher voltage at idle than under way. Close to 14 at idle but only 11.5-12 under load? The boat doesn't handle well AT ALL just off of idle, normal I'm thinking? The steering wheel is crooked when the drive is straight, I don't mean a little either, should be like this - and it's like this I . Seems to turn much better to the left than the right as well. Not sure if it's related. Lastly, while idling out of the no wake zone I went from just into gear and barely in the throttle to say 1/2 or a tad more throttle real quick. It hesitated for just a split second and away she went. Not going to really get into that much as this isn't the proper subforum for that topic. Just making notes of my first ever time out on my first boat.
