I have 98 Bayliner Capri 18' Bowrider. Just curious if anyone knows if this boat is all fiberglass or is there some wood in the hull? I've checked out every nook and cranny I can get my head into with a flashlight and so far it all appears to be fiberglass. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: Got wood?

Most of the wood should be covered with fiberglass. Look at the edges of the ski locker, engine cutout in the cockpit floor, the supports that go across the boat, where the engine mounts to the hull, where the deck and the hull meet on the inside of the boat, etc. to see if there is any rough edges/pinhole gaps.

I would almost guarantee that there is wood in there. Like seabuddy said, the wood will be encapcilated in fiberglass. The new Bayliners still use wood so I'm sure the '98 does. Check out their website: Bayliner 185 You will see "XL composite panels..." This is marine grade wood.

The process of building an all fiberglass/composite boat is expensive. Very few boats builders of 18' runabouts are all fiberglass. Caravelle, Glastron, Larson, Four Winns come to mind. My Reinell uses XL panels and they are warrantied for life. I spoke with the Director of Marketing and he stated that they have NEVER had a failure in any of their boats.
