Gotta new project time for some research

Any help identifing these would be great. Here is a link with photos. The boat was registered by NC vessel number stating that it was a '69 "ArroGlas" that is exactly what they had in there records. the registration was current and the boat looks like it was used not to many years ago, I am guessing it hasn't been outside that long based on the look and function of things. Hull looks to be perfect . Needs some going through and paint and the usual elbow grease but look sto be interesting. The trailer I can post some better pix of , it looks to be of the similar time period and it is gonna get sanded and repainted to . Looking for some old photos for some color scheme comparison sof it's original state.

your boat is gellcoated..... i take it thats dirt on top of it?

a robins egg blue and a white hull.....


looks like this

any questions on the motor....post them in the ob section....our crew here is top notch........

once you sand off any paint....the gellcoat color will come up......

painting is a lot easyer than re gellcoating.

Found some more about this boat. It is in fact a "Arrow Glass" of Memphis ,Tennessee. 1969 Model. I found a site for the brand of boat but of all the members pictures none had one as old as mine . I did not see a picture of mine but I did see an illustration in an old brochure that someone had scanned in I'll post a link to let yall see what you think if I ma right about this one.

Yes It was very very dirty. I cleaned it alot . then took all the instruments and gauges of and started sanding the rattle can job someone had done off and it was that robin egg blue underneath but under that I think the original color was red . Unless they originally primed with red paint , however there seemed to be two different shades of red. The blue was super smooth but in some spots it had already been sanded down through the blue to the red. Now that I think of it I ma positive the boat was originally red as on the keel you can see red under the white(which was rattle can but has held up rather suprisingly.

I am gonna have it sprayed by a friend who does auto painting so hopefully that will come out quite nice. Will post pix of progress,I have been busy!

I've been doing a lot of reading on this subject, and the more I read, I learn, even though our family has a body shop of nearly 50 years, I know nothing about painting boats.

I specifically asked my father-in-law, "what do you know about painting boats?" to his reply, "Son I may have painted over a million cars that turned out great and lasted a very long time but, I've only painted one boat. While it looked great in the shop, and even better outside sitting on the trailer in the shine. After a month of uses in and out of the water, I would have to go back to school to learn how to paint a boat before I ever tried to paint one again."

Mind you we are talking about a man that has rebuilt cars all of his adult life, he has never had the chance to learn the dos and don'ts when it comes to marine painting.

I hope your painter knows more than mine does.

Well I am by no means looking for something of a professional caliber. Something from 10 feet that looks nice would be ok with me. I prolly won't keep it that long so it don't have to last forever. Having said that , I have seen quite a few boats on here painted with auto paint that looked rather nice for a number of years. Some guy with a really cool old retro fitted for wake boarding "Larson" I think looked awesome. Don't have much money at all in it so .....here goes nothing!

Like the man said after YEARS of painting cars........I learn that one of the best ways to get a "pro" finish,is to use ALL of the products the co. tells you to,AWLGRIP is awesome,if you use thier products the right way,I spent a few years working in a yard near me(a big jersey named yard) and we did ALOT of hulls and after years on cars I seen some awesome paint work,I was amazed that even "I" could get them to look the way they did,then there are the "old timers" who can paint with a brush and it looks like it is sprayed,I watched these guys and I gotta say,THATS an art ! but yeah,prep is all of it!,just like with a car,but remember the old saying ,"you can't make chicken soup out of chicken s#*t !"

feelin pretty smooth! scuffing well I am indeed! Was wondering if I should prime it or just paint over old paint that is sanded perfectly smooth. Wouldn't the old base coat serve just the same as primer?

Oh here's some pix of progression. I am only gonna paint the cap as the flat white hull paint is looking great, not glossy but very clean and I am ok with it. Makes the paint job alot easier too!
