I am a new boater and intend to do limited day cruising on Lake Champlain in VT. I'm investigating handheld GPS and want to know why I should get either a Garmin GPS 72 or a Geko.

I know the GPS 72 can store more waypoints, has a bigger screen, and can get "points of interest" that I don't care about. I'm looking for an entry-level unit and need to know if the Geko is only a toy compared to the GPS 72.

Thanks,
BarryBob (still under 5" of snow!)

Re: GPS 72 or Geko?

I just bought the 72 as a backup to my GPS/chartplotter.(can't be too safe offshore!) I also looked at the smaller version and they were just too small for me. I like the larger screen. The buttons on the 72 are also on the front of the unit and are very intuitive. The smaller units have all the "controls" on the sides which seemed to make it harder to operate. My preference was for the larger unit, larger screen, easier to understand controls.
Good Luck
