i went with a $125 microsoft streets with a gps connector for my laptop..<br /><br />I had the laptop, which i travel with all of the time anyway and I could not see spending 1k for a gps only.<br /><br />Streets has all of the maps automatically and it will also display the latest construction information<br /><br />The real issue with this equipment is that if you are going to rely on them 100% for directions then you need the to WORK 100% which means you need to spend extra $$$ to get the top line models.<br /><br />My laptops gps also works with handheld units, so you can get a palm or other handheld and connect the gps receiver to it and then download the correct map. <br /><br />Still not boat worthy imho but still cheaper - palm unit is only about 200-300.
