GPS question

We have a Garmin 255W in our truck. Is there any reason that I couldn't hook it up in my boat, and run the boat across the water, and see how the GPS reads -vs- the speedometer?? Would this be accurate ??

I don't have a hand-held, or access to one, is why I ask.

Re: GPS question

Just turn off lock on road and keep it dry

GPS speed is much more accurate. I can also load lake maps on an SD card.

Absolutely. Stuff it right into a zip lock bag to keep it clean and dry, reset the trip meter and max speed and have fun. I don't think the 255 has any nautilcal map support.

Now my old garmin in my car goes one step better...... it has directed me to turn into a lake a few times  and I am sure it is trying to kill me when I drive.
