Re: GPS Software

Depends on your GPS, LP.

If it is a Garmin, you can use Mapsource. Check with Garmin about which Mapsource CDs are compatible with your GPS. BlueCharts seems to be the right one to me.

Re: GPS Software

I use Terrain Navigator by Maptech and it will interface with my Garmin GPS and works "okay" It would work better if my GPS had WAAS but mine is an older unit. It on occassion shows me driving in the dirt next to the road or through a building but that is just due to the lower accuracy of the older GPS.

Nice web site to check.

http://mapserver.maptech.com/homepa...0060030900,1,1,0&CFID=761789&CFTOKEN=61332745

Bob

I have a Garmin E-trex (handheld) and a Dell Latitude, and the same question as Luckypenny.

Re: GPS Software

I use microsoft streets and trips and it can connect to a GPS unit.

MS Maps with a GPS antenna is only 125$

It is the 2004 version of streets and trips

All you have to do is connect a GPS reciever to your laptop and the software will scan and find it and then display a gps pane on your screen.

Its great on an airplane you can find out exactly what your flying over!!

Re: GPS Software

For those of you with Garmin units that have PC/USB interface cable or the older ones with serial connector, you can plug them into your laptop that has the Mapsource software (comes with all of the Garmin CD map products). You will just need to open the Mapsource application, select the GPS Tab and then select Start Tracking icon. The GPS acts as the antenna and the laptop becomes the screen. You can download the Mapsource updates from Garmin at:

Updates & Downloads

(Nyminute – it’s ok. I had the same problem trying to post after finding a bottle of 12-year old single malt. :D )
