NEVER use a sponge on a car paint to wash it{post 19}...since the sponge picks up any debris and becomes a SCRATCHER....you end up with marks everywhere....so chuck that sponge and use a soft cloth your finish will stay that way...in experienced hands a pressure washer is fine it's the unskilled where it's bad ....my cent and a half

Uh..yeah...I'm in MI too, must be this is the only state where every 4 miles there is a "self service" car wash with 8 bays loaded with a pressure washer and foaming scrub brush.

And whoever said about containing the dust, if it's a contractor with the right tools, they would've had a festool mutli tool setup for cuting/finishing granite/solid surface.

I had some granite tops installed here a few years ago, any cutting they had to do was done outside in the driveway with a wet saw. No dust at all. besides, if there was any dust and if it did get on my car I'd consider it my own fault for not moving it out of their way.
Besides, I live next to a huge dirt lot where trucks are coming and going all day. The dust they kick up all day settles on my car if the wind blows the right way. All I do is hose it off real well and give the car a quick soapy wash with a horsehair brush and all is fine.
I would suppose sand and gravel dust is similar if not worse than granite dust.
The bird droppings do far more harm to the paint then dust does anyhow.

By the way... the detail guy washed the car first with his own soap. Wanna guess how he rinsed it..... Wanna guess how he blew out the excess polishing agent....

Yeah its out of focus. But all the white spots and scratches are gone. And the paint now looks as good as it possibly can for a 12 year old car now.

I see the problem, the car is black, that shows everything.

I had a black truck once, it didn't take but a few months for it to start looking like crap. A few trips to the beach fishing, a few footprints from tying up the canoe on the roof and it looked like a 10 year old beater.

The truck I've got now still looks good other than a few dents from walking on the hood but it's white. Sand still cuts through the paint though.

That thing looks like someone took a sand filled rag and washed the car. A soft brush would have done far better with LOTS of soap.

I stay away from things with paint these days, the first dent or scratch hurts too much. But after that, who cares. I cut bait on the hood of my truck now. I washed it out the other day with a pressure washer, on the inside. It's the only way to get all the mud, sand, and bait out of the carpet.

LOL. My brother in law rhinolined the carpet in his Dakota. Worked awesome.

There's definitely something to be said for the type of truck that you don't have to worry about scratching the paint or getting the inside dirty. I have far more fun owning older trucks these days vs. all the new vehicles I've had.

The question I ask is, who caused the damage??

The dust on the car attributed to you having to wash the car.
Now in saying that, who wiped the water off with one of those water blades. I personally would never consider using such a harsh metheod of cleaning a car.

Hope to hear how this one ends up... although I'd say you personally caused the damages. It's like washing and wiping your car in a sand storm!!

GOOD LUCK!
