Grease coupler?

My Bravo 3 is currently off the boat. When I reinstall, can I just grease the splines? Or do I need to climb in and contort to reach the fittings on the engine coupler? In other words, when you grease the coupler, are doing anything other than greasing those splines?

Re: Grease coupler?

Putting grease on the shaft is how it was done by Merc before the couplers had zirks. The OMC Cobra's and the Volvos (SX and newer) also don't have zirks to this day.
Makes you do the maintenance, pull the drive, check alignment, grease the ujoints if you can, and clean an lube the splines.

Re: Grease coupler?

I thought lubing the splines and greasing the coupler were the same thing, but wanted to be positive. And I pull my drive every year, cause I am lucky and still have grease fittings on my u-joints. Thanks Don!
