I have a 1993 bravo two and on the oudside of what i think is called the bell housing (the black case that attaches to the transom) has a grease nipple on the right hand side (if your standing behind the boat looking at the outdrive) What is it for? Is it a grease fitting?

I'm chicken so I use Mercruiser grease in mine.

THanks for the reply NHguy...Yeah I want to use that green grease...It is made for possible water contact and has a high temp resistance along with great water resistance. Hoping someone here knows about it or what the difference between it and the merc grease....but any grease is better than none...lol

Re: grease nipple?

I just bought a tube "Waterproof Green Grease" from the auto parts store. It seems to have all the right stuff to us on boat trailer wheel bearing as well as the steering and other outboard zerk fittings. The moment I saw fertlizer resistant, that sold me for saltwater.

green grease is awesome. i worked at autozone and i was told by so many people that there great for marine use so i used it for my boat and so far so good. the only downside is the price, its rather expensive

As long as you dont use grease containing teflon which apparantly can form deposits on the bearing rollers and cause them to skid instead of rolling = new gimbal bearing.

Since that bearing rotates at engine speed, Id use the Mercruiser recommended grease.

How much?

just a few pumps. You could pump grease in all day and there would be no resistance since it would just go through the bearing and slowly fill the driveshaft bellows with grease.
