Grease or no Grease?

Just replaced shift cable on 81 pre-alpha. Went to new style. I have read conflicting info on whether or not to grease the roller mechanism and actuator (aluminum piece on end of shift cable that roller rides in).<br />I read that I should lighty lube with gear lube.<br />What do you guys think?

I use a Big Glob of Spline Grease.....<br /><br />No Problems.....
