Grease seal size?

What's the best way to determine the correct bearing/seal size? My hub measures 2 1/4'' OD. I'd like to have the new seal in hand when I inspect my bearings. It's an old ('73) Gator trailer with 480X12 wheels. Trailer is rated for 1440 lbs.
Lots of different sizes. Hard to tell which is for me or what exactly to measure to determine.

Thanks,

K

You didn't see the "Bearing Sizes" sticky at the very top of this page. Actually, there is no way to tell what bearings or seals you need until you remove the wheel, OR unless you know the spindle size. Measuring the hub is of no help whatsoever. Bearings and seals are very standard and are available at any larger auto store like NAPA, O'Reily's, most farm stores, etc. Spindles on your trailer will likely be 1-inch diameter inner and outer or 1-1/16 inch inner and outer. No way to know untill you pull it apart. Just take the seal and bearings with you (or copy the numbers off them). The auto stores will be able to match/cross reference them.

Thanks for the information, again. You know, I did read that sticky concerning bearing sizes. I guess I just didn't like the answer. It's clear that I can't always get what I like, huh. Thanks again for the good advise.

What answer didn't you like? If there is something in the chart you dispute, let us know. We'll check and fix it if necessary.

Re: Grease seal size?

I wanted someone to tell me a way that I could determine the correct size before I took it apart. I just prefer to have my replacement parts on hand when I start a job, that's all. I'll be taking my seal and bearings in today when I go in to get my rotors turned. I think it's really cool that so many are so willing to share their knowledge and experience on this site. Thanks to iboats as well, for providing this forum. Thanks again.
