Good morning

I have a 2001 Volvo Penta dp-sm drive. It has been flawless for 10 years. This spring I changed the bellow (2nd time since new fresh water) and my drive had a very small amount of water in the bellow. I have read other posts and you mention the grease tube as a source of the problem. I am wondering first if since its been water free for 10 years I should replace the tube and nipple and see what happens or two do as Don suggested and replace the tube with stainless steel tube. I am unsure how you guys fixed it and any info would be great. Would the tube ever go bad? and how does it fasten into the bearing? The nipple was loose and came off in the grease gun fitting. Could this be a problem too? I plan on ordering new grease fitting and locktight in. Sorry for all the questions just looking for the best solution. Thanks again

Re: Grease Tube Volvo Penta

All I did was remove the plastic tube, tapped the hole it came out of with a 1/8 NPT tap and put in a zirk. It's a pain to get in there and keep it straight, but with care can be done. Just be careful you don't tap too deep.
I have never had luck with new tubes when loctite, or anything else. When they leak, I go to the zirk and the problem is cured.
