I have been told on a few occasions that your should put about 4-6 pumps every 100 hours or so. If your drive is sound, and by sound I mean the drive bellows (boot) is NOT leaking and all the other seals are good, then it should be a pretty sterile environment around your bearing. I used to be OCD about greasing the gimbal bearing, that is until I pulled the drive off the change the shift cable and saw where all that grease was going. The excess pushes out into the bellows and makes a big mess. Hope this helps.
