Great one looking back but bad bad day!

Well my Dad and I went in and bought a 88 Bayliner Capri that needed fixed up. Got it mechincally all together over the spring. Went to take it out for the first time this past Sunday at Brookville lake in Indiana. <br /> Good news is the boat ran great and no problems. Was out on the lake about an hour decided to call it a day since just a test run.<br /> Backed the truck down the ramp and my dad pulled the boat on the trailer. Get it all secured up and ready to go. Get in the truck and go to pull away. The truck is spinning the tires like crazy and barely moving. After moving about 15 feet my Dad yells stop. Smoke everywhere from the tires. I slam the brakes to stop and put the emergency brake on. <br /> Guy next to me goes well there goes there tire. Get out and one of the trailers tires is flat. Looks like the fender came loose and basically locked the tire. Black mark all the way into the water where I drugg it up. So no spare and about 45 minutes from home, decided to pull it out of the way on the rim since we will need a new one any way.<br /> Get in the truck and go to pull away and realize no brakes in the truck. Yeh a brake line blew and also the master cylinder blew. So about 10 hours later after a buddy came and got the boat out and truck I was home. The truck is still at the ramp parking lot and going to pick that up today. <br /><br /> Wow what a first outing! <br /><br />Matt

Good to hear that nothing really... really bad happens. All this can be repair and replace. That's "Murphy's Law". Good luck.

Yep i would say bad experiance.<br />use this and all problems you incounter to help you make a check list for future inspections.<br />I would much rather spend a few minutes checking things over than hrs of dispare.

As long as no one gets hurt some day you will tell these stories around the campfire and laugh. I remember a similar thing where I backed the trailer off the side of the ramp under water. It was a concrete ramp and the water had washed the sand away on the side so when I pulled forward with the boat on the trailer the sidewall of the tire got ripped to pieces and the trailer dropped dramatically breaking the rusty old axle on the ramp. We are blocking the only ramp out of this lake so I put the truck in 4 wheel and literaly drug the trailer about 100 feet to the parking area. Had to leave it there over night and went back the next day and pulled the broken axle out and had a new one made at a welding shop. I was really bummed until I thought about how lucky I was the axle broke on the ramp instead of on the road at a high rate of speed!

Fifteen or so years ago, my wife and I took a coworker and her husband out. It was an enjoyable outing. Got to watch a seaplane land in the middle of a yachting regatta, but thats a different story.<br /><br />When we got back to the ramp, the husband offered to get the trailer. He promised that he knew how to drive a 5 speed. The trailer backed down just perfectly and I pulled the boat up and winched it in. When he started trying to pull the boat out, nothing was happening except the engine was revving. Suddenly, a nice puff of smoke came out from under the truck(little S10). I went to see what was happening....the idiot had it in second gear!!!! <br /><br />I took over and it pulled right out. I drove the truck another 15k miles after that, so Im not sure what the smoke was.
