I am replacing some floor and extending my fishing platform on a 16' 1979 Glastron Bass Boat and would like to add some additional foam. Any thoughts about using the great stuff spray in foam. I am not doing th ewhole boat or anything just adding some where it has degraded over the years from mice, etc.

Not the best choice for floatation, it has to be painted to be waterproof. A better choice would be the blue or pink rigid foam sheets from Home Depot or Lowes.

Great Stuff does have a Pond and Stone blend that dries to a "Water Repellant" surface that does not require painting to seal it. However, Compared to the Normal Pour in foam or the Blue/Pink Slab foam, it is not as good an more pricey. Your Boat, Your Decision.

Do Not use Great Stuff! For the abovementioned reasons. Plus it sticks like glue to any surface it touches.

If you really want to use expanding foam, order it from here:
Urethane Foam , Expanding Marine Polyurethane Foam

This is the same stuff they use when they build the boats new.

The only time I use great stuff on a boat is when I want to stick things together . . . Like those styrofoam boards, etc. . . . As far as a structural or flotation foam . . . Not happening.

If its just putting some foam here and there and not filling up a compartment .. I guess you could use it.

Sounds like your only filling such small areas that it would almost be impossible to jam some blueboard in there .. or mix up a few OZs of 2 part foam..

Or did I get your post wrong ? How much do you need to fill up ?

Great stuff works wonders for gluing conduit in place under the gunwales. Use painters tape to locate it, then foam it in place. then run wires, etc. as needed. However for floatation - a bad idea.

Re: Great Stuff Spray Foam

thanks for all the advice. I will switch to a real boat foam and do it right, once.
