Thought I would share this product with my iboat pals.I bought el cheapo waterproofing spray at Walmart. Not expecting very much quality from it.Turns out that it repels water as well as anything I have ever used.I cant say how long it will last but as far as water repellancy it has worked as well as products 5 times the price. It is in an aerosol can in the camping dept. 2.99 a can and the can did my bimini, dodger and console cover on my 17 Mako.Water danced off of it.Orange cap with a yellow tag on top that says"scores 100 with single application"I dont see a manufacturers name on it but the label reads silicone water -guard. 10 0z can with a brown and blue label.Hopefully I have described it well enough for some of you guys to find.Give it a try!!!! This may go against my favorite saying...."You get what you pay for" Charlie

Thanks Charlie, I just had a dog jump on my custom cover and put a bunch of stress cracks in it. It seems to still hold but I wanted something to spray just to ensure it. At that price it's worth a shot.

Thanks again Crazy Chucko

:D

Re: great waterproofing and cheap!!!!

Hey, I read this when Charlie posted it, and sprayed my heavily-leaking bimini top with it last week. Soaked it down real good with the stuff. Today we have gotten over 1" of hard wind-driven rain, and the bimini is absolutely, 100% dry as a bone on the inside, not a single drop or damp spot, and all the water is beaded up and running off the top. This stuff is the closest thing to a miracle. I tried the more expensive stuff (don't know the brand offhand) and it still leaked. Before I sprayed it, the top leaked at the stitching, and if it got saturated (like today) it would just start dripping all over.

I can't believe it.

Re: great waterproofing and cheap!!!!

I discovered that procuct two years ago, and also had great water repelling results on my cockpit cover. I however did have an issue with it leaving a dark greyish/black film on the white gelcoat. Maybe I didn;t let the stuff "soak in" or dry good enough, but I waited about two days after spraying, before I put the cover on the boat.
Let us know if you have that problem. Cause I need to do my bimini top now, and maybe I was the problem last time!

I have used that stuff on my shoes, backpack, other camping things....it works great. I have not used it on my boat, but I am going to clean my top this weekend and will put it on afterwards. Never even thought to put on the boat. Thanks for the idea! :D

Yes, black "streaks". On the sides of the boat, right below where my cockpit cover snaps

Ok,I know what you are referring to now.It has nothing to do with the waterproofing. You need to get the cover off and give it a good wash and rinse before you water proof it again.Charlie

Ok, Charlie, I'll try that. If that is true, the black has nothing to do with the waterproofing, then that waterproofing is the greatest waterproofer ever made!

Re: great waterproofing and cheap!!!!

So this stuff would work on a nylon tent, right? Prolly a stupid question, because that's prolly what it's marketed for. Just wondering because we're going to be using the tent this weekend and there's a good chance of rain. Tent hasn't been sealed in a few years and will definitely leak if we get a good downpour!

Give it a good spray and let us know how it holds up if you get rain.It states that it is good for all types of tents.Charlie

Re: great waterproofing and cheap!!!!

Thanks Charlie. Just a few hours ago, I copied and pasted your thread into an e-mail to my wife as she told me she was going to pick up some waterproofing for the tent today after work. Her job is within a mile or so of a Wallyworld, so she says she's going to go look for it. I'll let you know how it works out if she's able to find some! Thanks again and have a great/safe holiday weekend!

Not sure, but I think my wife bought some different stuff from Wal Mart. It is actually Scotch Guard, and was $5/can. The rain never came, so we still haven't found out how well it worked on the tent.

Have her take it back, cause it isn't "Scothguard" brand. It'll be in the aisle with the camping supplies. And the BRIGHT ORANGE lid can be seen from the tire department!

Re: great waterproofing and cheap!!!!

I have tried the Scotch Guard and found it useless. I bought a couple of cans of this stuff and will see hoe it hold up. Did my Bimini this weekend. It took just a bit over one can.

The name of the stuff is Silicone Water-Guard by sno-seal. Item #1336 by Atsko inc. Orangeburg,S.C. Still have a full can waiting because when I got it the label says it only takes one application. And I always believe everything I read.
