The water pump is right above the flat anti-cavitation plate. That is about as much as I can tell you without knowing more about your motor. It may have a rubber impeller and it may have a sliding vane type. Methinks sliding vane. If so, you have to remove the powerhead and pull the steering swivel pin out to access the nut holding the front stud that holds the gearcase on.

Brian Wilcox makes the rubber impellers. You are on your own if it is a sliding vane. I made mine out of Delrin. That takes a bit of patience.

re;re:from jaybow68-- whom is now jaybow, seeing as how I forgot my first password and could never recover it. I learned "Write it down - lose the frown".
To F_R whose advice has proven worthy: I followed your instructions and got the water pump out. Has sliding vane, Delrin on the way. Have since looked at your site on Elgin 2.5 etc. WoW! Should'a seen that first. I just didn't know if the nut was hex or what? Of course I found out and I could have used a modified screw driver. Well next time. Thanks jaybow

Darn will I ever get on to this rig????
