Re: Green coating melting from stator

The charging system being faulty caused the voltage to back up resulting in the extreme overheating of the stator as I mentioned above. This extreme heat is what caused the larger (ignition) coils to break down, crack, melt, etc.

Re: Green coating melting from stator

Ok, since I am waiting on parts. What would be the effect of me removing the rectifier. Would the motor still run as long as the stator works. And would this stop the voltage from going back to the stator and overheating the stator? Just curious I have a trolling motor and am going fishing this weekend and wondered if this would work intead of floating around with the trolling motor. Let me know what you think or your expierences. I have read posts on other sites that said this was possible.

Thanks

Got the parts. Got the Rectifier changed, but I need the instructions to change flywheel with the 2x4 method. I have seen it on here but can't find it now.

Re: Green coating melting from stator

The rectifier was definately bad, when I removed and examined the red wire the sleeving was brittle and fell right off. The stator is now charging the batery so I guess I will leave it on until I get ambitious and try getting the flywheel off. But I am guessing that not to much damage was done to the stator, I will continue to monitor the charging volts and will definately change the stator if I have any problems with the ignition. It appears that the stator is not getting as hot anymore. I ran it for about 15 minutes on the muffs and could touch the stator where it used to melt and it wasn't soft or hot, just had a little warmth to it. Probably not the smartest thing to do when the flywheel is moving around but I have a steady hand and all of my fingers still. Thanks for the help and I was also impressed by the speedy delivery from Iboats on the rectifier good ole ground mail.

update, got the flywheel off yesterday and popped in the stator, hooked it all up and suprisingly it runs even better before, boat has a smoother more even idle.
