Re: Green Gear Fluid in Blidge - lower Gear Mercruiser Alpha One

Thanks --- but its on a trailer --- but I just bet water is coming in there ---

I was too stupid to look in there while out -- last weekend ---

Everything seemed to be going so well -- until I took out the Blige plug and that water came out -- and of course I thought the Gear Fluid was leaking from the reservoir ---

I just wonder how much water was in the Blige -- should I be looking at getting a Auto Blige pump ?

sure seems like a good idea --- now

But, eliminating all possible ways for water entering your boat is an even better idea!!!

Was doing a little research on the Gear Fuild Tube from the engine --- and do not see how the fluid gets to the lower unit ---

I am looking at the drawings on sterndrive.info and don't see it -- does the rubber tube from the engine Gear fluid reservoir connect to the Bell housing -- and then another hose take it to the lower unit ?

Just thought I'd get a little educated before taking the boat in to have the drive pulled -- but just dont see the parts for this reservoir system on the drawings -- maybe they are not there --

Really would like to do this myself -- BUT -- not yet

Here is a link to the Mercruiser service manual.
Lots of pictures and information.

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14cover.pdf

Basically, the hose goes to the transom shield to a fitting and quick disconnect. On the drive side of that fitting is a short hose to the bellhousing. Then there is another quick disconnect between the drive and the bellhousing.

Wanted to let you know it was the Yoke Seal in the upper -- Gear lube was filling the bellows and going back into the bilge -- cost about $700 to get a new seal, yoke, and one x bearing.

The bellows looked good - almost new so didnt do that part -- they indicated that would be another wave of cost --

In the process I think I found another Dealer/repair place which might have lower cost than this one -- will try it next time --

also got the top of the Carb pulled as the float needed to be reset ( had a mid-range problem ) -- total $1000 -- -- wheew --
