Hello to the veteran iBoaters!

I just purchased my first boat and I'm having a very hard time figuring out what it is. The only info I have is that it's supposedly a '68 and 17' made by Blue Water according to the registration. I tried searching on here and was directed by some of the threads to the uscgboating.org MIC database and since my HIN is only eight characters long it tells me it is incorrect and to enter the correct HIN.

As I know how hard this would be without pics I took some and decided to post them to see if anyone can help! Thanks guys and enjoy!

Indeed. I see you already have them in photobucket which is great. You can resize them to the forum-acceptable 640x480 size with just a click or two per picture.

Re: Greetings from a newb and an ID question

Sorry guys, I thought maybe the forum software would have been set up to automatically resize pics with the option to expand... :(

Well I decided to do some removing of decals on the outboard and found out it's a Johnson. Now that's as much as i'm going to find out for now I think. I'm getting it inspected and hopefully tuned this week to make sure the motor is good, if not I'll be on the look out for a new motor.

I also believe in legalities being handled prior to funneling money into projects so most things will have to be put on hold till I get all documents stating we are the official owners!

What size/year johnson is it? We dumped a bunch of money into our '73 85 five years ago when we bought the boat to get it running but it's been reliable ever since then and hasn't been back to the shop.

Re: Greetings from a newb and an ID question

unfortunately I don't know, since the original ad said the boat was a '77 with a 135hp motor, now I find out the boat is actually a '68 and who knows what the motor really is... is there anywhere I can check?

There should be a plate located on or around the transom mounting brackets that have a model number on them. Mine is 85ESL73 which is a 1973 85HP.
