Re: grew boats

Grew boats were manufactured in Penetang Ontario until about 10 years ago. They were known for their strong hull design.

The molds etc. were purchased by Noremac Marine, Owen Sound. I'm not quite sure what the ownership structure is now. The new company makes Grew and other boats (see website, "noremacmarine", I think.

I purchased a new year 2000 Grew 174 with a Honda 90 last year. The boat is quite comfortable and versatile for its small size. The boat itself had some fit and finish problems though, ie. several gelcoat cracks near windshied (improper counterboring in screw areas), poor windshield-to-hull sealing etc. It is rated for 120 HP. However, it is not physically designed to carry a large 4-stroke such as the Honda 90 HP. Motor cannot be raised high enough to lock it in place.

Getting cracks fixed proved to be a nightmare. No cooperation between dealer and manufacturer. In Grew's defense, I may have been sold a demo by the dealer. Will not go back to this particular dealer in future.

However, no problems with boat this year. No gelcoat cracking etc. Quite stable for its size and I am happy with it.

I hope this gives you some info on Grew.
