Re: Grey Oil ???

One way I have flushed engine crankcases. Get the engine warmed up and drain the oil warm. Re-fill the engine oil with deisel feul. Run the engine for a while, then drain the deisel when warm. Leave the plug out and let it drip for a few hours and try it.
With fresh oil in it, run it and see what the oil looks like.
Did the dipstick have water or any signs of water on it toward the top?

Just a word of encouragement. I had the same problem as posted, flushed the oil out, cleaned the fuel tank, and converted the ignition to electronic in an old 1978 GM V8 that hadn't been run in a few years and it now it starts within a crank or 2 and purrs like a kitten!

I hope you have the same results.

Re: Grey Oil ???

I would like to say thank you to all who replied to my post all of you provided mith with much needed information, I am going to wait untill the weather get's a little warmer here befor I take it out and run it. Thank's again to everyone!!!
Im having a similar issue with what-originally started as very thick grey sludge. First 6 litres had some water in it for sure maybe 2 litres but put 15 litres in approximately 3 oil changes and now its a milky yellow colour.

I did also notice initially the engine did not run great on idle and would occasionally cut off. I noticed this when on a day at anchor the started died and i had to go back to port on one engine so with my lack of experience assumed maybe i forced water into the engine. Experts im sure will disagree and hoping as previous comments have suggested its a sludge and once cleared all will be ok.
