Grind how deep into the spider cracks?

While I'm fixing all the dings, scratches, gouges in the gel coat, the spider cracks are next on the to do list.

How deep do I dremel, scrape into the gel coat? I'm using a blunt tool to get into the crack and making it wider. The cracks seem to be very superficial. Do I just get deep enough until I don't see the crack anymore, or go all the way down to the glass?

I'll reinforce the the structure from the inside with glass but what type should I use?

thanks!!

The craks will go at least to the glass and maybe further, every bit of the crack needs to be rmoved.

Wow, I have to post a follow up response. This fix was a very easy fix. The spectrum color gel coat is a close match. After compounding, polish, and wax it should be like new.

These fixes brought great self satisfaction. I had a half dollar size notch down to the glass that looked like it never happened.

To those scared of trying gel coat repairs, think no more. I can't say enough. I'll post pics when the entire boat is compounded, polished, and waxed.

That's the great thing about a glass boat. You can repair any damaged area to like new condition. And even better in some cases.
