Hey how is everyone? So i have a 1994 150hp merc and when shifting from nuetral into reverse or in to drive there is a loud grinding sound but i wll go into gear when we heard this me and my dad decided to turn around cause whatever it is we could be making it worse so we take back to marina a mechanic told us that mercs tend to louder then most engines and that its normal but he said it sounds like its ildeling to high so to be safe we had him look at it. So i was justw ondering if this is normal or do we have a problem sorry for writing so much thanks:D

That motor should idle at 6-700 RPM while in the water and in gear. When you shift don't ease it in, PUT in in gear. The gears are not syncronized like a car transmission.

it is normal to grind a little. Like what was said dont ease it in gear put it right in gear. If its a loud grind you most like are ideling a little high and need to adjust that accordingly. But never fear you have a real nice engine there just take care of it.

Mine also does it also. Not a related subject but, I've got a power trim problem. Solenoids click when applied. Have 12 volts at the trim motor just won't trim up or down. Anyone have had this problem, know how to fix it?

shores, does the motor turn at all or just get a clicking from the solenoids? If the motor turns and it wont go up and down make sure you have plenty of fluid in the reservoir and bleed your lines might have air in them. If the motor wont turn it needs to be replaced.
