Re: Gross fuel dilution in BF20
I wish I could remember where I read this but I took notice to it because I have never experienced it. Basically it was the same problem as what you describe - people noticing their oil rising and are unable to explain it. The article clarified that this is 'normal' under certain operating condition. It was often water in the oil however and not just fuel. Basically, the explanation was that gas will dissolve into the oil and water will mix into it because fuel is obviously present in the crankcase and other areas but water is a product of combustion. The reason why some people observe this condition and not others has to do with their driving habits-including location. Under normal circumstances, both water and gas will evaporate or be burned off during combustion, but, if you happen to run your outboard in cold climate or very gentley - like always trolling - the engine never reaches an operating temperature warm enough to dispell the onwanted solutes. I believe the solution was to try warmer plugs or run the engine under load periodically. <br />Don't know if that haelps, certainly not a decisive answer but at least it gives you something to start your search.
