I found the ground wire coming from the armature plate on my '65 johnson to be frayed. How hard is it to repplace? It looks like I have to replace the armature plate

Re: Ground wire question

Does that motor have points? I believe that wire may just be ground to the points and can be replaced.

You can do quite a bit of repair to frayed wires with solder and heat shrink tubing.

Also with starbrite liquid electrical tape. I repaired wires on my amplifier on 69 johnson, though I havent tested it yet! The wires to the points were easly replaced.

Re: Ground wire question

If the frayed wire means the insulation is frayed,I would not be concerned unless the wire runs near a power source.Ground wires do not usually need insulation.

If the actual wires are frayed, yes replace it.

DHP

PS something else may come to mind if you post the HP (or did I miss it ?)
