Re: Grrrr

That's happened to me a few times, but when I click the "Back" button the post I wrote is still there. Highlight the entire text, right click and copy, sign back on, then right click and paste the text into a new reply. Done.

"Ditto", Only for me when I hit submit, it said "The server is too busy at the moment":mad: Luckily it was still there when I hit back, then I had to paste, & copy it, to submit again, it's been happening quite often lately

Folks, calm down. This server is on it's last leg. There's an unbelievable number of users on it most of the time. I-boats is working hard on replacing it with a monster data cruncher.

Meanwhile, have enough moxy so if you get verbose in a reply, just click swipe it and copy it to clipboard. Then submit it. If the server craps on you, just log back in, start a reply, and click-paste your clipboard into it.

The service is free. Stop complaining.

hope it helps

Calm down? Moxy?,,,, I have just as much right to my opinion as you do  apparently you haven't had this issue happen to you, or happen enough times to drive you wild! Plus, I believe this is the new server already. Clipboard, I don't know what that is? or what it does? Some of us are maybe not as computer literate, as you,,, and panic when this happens, luckily my post has been there when I click back, but I'm not in the habit of saving my reply on copy/paste before I hit reply all the time, as this issue usually happens when least expected.

Free? Do you have free internet service, if so let me know, I want it too! ;)

Re: Grrrr

My thought on the 'free' comment was that this forum is covered with ads, so iboats.com makes a bunch of money off the forum through ads, and a bunch more through direct sales of parts. So for all the money they make from the forums, I think us users aka sources of profit, earned the right to complain when the 'free' forum isn't working correctly.

Also, the clipboard is where things go when you copy and paste something.

It happens a lot, that's why I learned to compensate for it.

Anybody that doesn't know the term "clipboard" doesn't have the right to complain about the operation of anybody elses system.

Ignorance can be cured.....That is unless you are proud of it. In that case stupididy is forever.

Re: Grrrr

When you login, check the 'remember me' box. That way, when you use the forum the following day, it won't log you out. I've only ever logged in once per PC, since checking that box logs you in forever on that PC/browser combo.

Also, the server doesn't log you out magically, it has a timeout. If you are inputting a post and take hours to complete it, you will have been logged out before you hit submit. If you take hours to submit a post, taking the time to select all and copy the text shouldn't be much of a bother. All of that said, just check the 'remember me' box on login and never worry about it again.

For those who get the 'site too busy' message, just hit f5 (refresh) and it will resubmit your post. Clicking 'back' in IE is risky at best, as Ie has a habit of setting form entries to defaults when you re-visit the page. FireFox will always keep your form text (your post text), so if you already use FF (highly recommended), you will be fine either way.

Well I've been around way before computers were even invented, but all my learning was from WEB TV, or seat of the pants!
Maybe you could explain how to get to clipboard, because I know it's there, but have no clue?,,, By the way, I've been logged in permanently all along ;)

I've been in this from back when the Navy thought a wire programmed card sorter was a computer.

Worked designing core memory, when memory was ferrite cores with tiny wires running through them. 128K was a huge machine. 150 MB of disk storage was the size of a washing machine.

Anyway, when you hold down the left button on a mouse and wipe the pointer over a line of text, it will highlight it. If you right click at that time, one of the options is "copy". That copies it to the clipboard. Then you do whatever you need to do, which may be just wait for Iboats to crap on you, and put the mouse pointer where you want the text, right click, and choose "paste". Walla, there it is.

Glad to help.

Re: Grrrr

Thanks, but that process I already know, and use all the time,,, I thought you meant an actual clipboard that drops down, which I have as well, and it appears on occasion randomly, but I don't know how to access it? maybe it's leftover from an old program I downloaded?

Re: Grrrr

Windows XP clipboard viewer is called clipbook viewer, and it is not automatically installed, nor is it a real clean application.

If I want to modify something on the clipboard, or add a bunch of clips together, or edit them before I paste, I just open a notebook session and paste it in there, then copy what I want to carry forward.

Anyway, the hidden place in windows that holds a cut and paste between the actions is called the clipboard.

hope it helps

Re: Grrrr

This is the left over part of a program I had on my computer from a number of years ago, that I got conned into buying, I have since deleted all else, but thought this was a part of the microsoft program, so I never deleted it, until I just opened the webaite to take look  I had it disabled, because every time I went to the upper blue bar on top, a clipboard shot down blocking half my page, that I didn't know what to do with

On any Mac, you can just switch to the Finder, and choose Show Clipboard from the Edit menu.

The winders clipboard will store almost anything, text, graphics, url's, and even complete file and folder structures for a copy or move routine. It does it dynamically, which takes fairly serious decision tree and programming to accomplish.

Back in "the good old days" when you could only clip text, a clipboard viewer made sense. When it gets this complicated, it isn't worth the trouble it would take to make it safe and effective. I think that's why MS dropped it.

Mac has had pretty pictures and primitive operating system for years, which makes it:
1. Not worth programming to, except for a few niche markets
2. Not complicated enough to be hard to defend
3. Not worth attacking because the user base is limited.

Thus, Mac always works.

hope it helps
