Grrrrrr Water in the infloor storage. How to drain it

I was working on my new project today and when I opened the infloor storage I noticed it was full of water. The cover of the floor is made of wood with spaces. I noticed the area does not drain into the bilge.

I was thinking for everyday storage I might put a bilge pump in there with a float switch hooked to the battery and a hose over the side to drain it when the boat is sitting.

Any ideas if this will work?

Sure, why not? But you didn't mention if you were floating or on a trailer. Really doesn't matter that much just make sure your battery stays charged. Running them completely down will shorten their lifespan considerably. :D

The boat is on the trailer.

And why does it not drain into the bilge?

A temporary fix would be a wet/dry vac. I bought one for my boat for around $30 at Lowes. It's only 2.5 hp and holds 2.5 gallons. I can use it for cleaning the carpets easily, and for sucking up any rain water that gets in the ski hold area.

I assume that your water is from rain, and not from use. Am I correct? I this case a wet/dry vac is more practical than a sump pump or bilge pump. A sump pump will cost you at least $75 and a bilge pump will drain your battery. I would go the practical route, and if you spend $75 then spend a little more and get this model of Shop Vac. Shop Vac w/ Built In Water Pump. At least you'll have something you can use in the garage when the snow is on the ground. :)

The reason I was thinking about the bilge pump was I have a new unopened one and hose from my other project that i gave up on. :D I was thinking why not use what I have

I don't mean to be a smart mouth but why not get the water out and put a cover over the boat? The boat will stay dry, no pump needed. I used a cheap tarp over my tri-hull for a long time. I used a broom handle with boards nailed to each end. Placed it on the deck to tent the tarp. walla, dry boat.

everyone I ever saw drained into the bilge. Check and see if the drains are not clogged.

I'd take all suggestions to heart. Make the space drain into the bilge, can't beat a wet/dry shop vac to have around the house for a variety of uses, install your pump/hose to take care of the bilge/entire boat, keep it covered while outside...nose up and plug out.

I second tmcalavy.

It's an easy fix without the addition of the pump. An hour more to add the pump.

More water pumping out = more time floating.:D

if its just a sealed bucket thing see if the drains are clogged, if it isnt attached to the hull drill a hole so it drains into the bilge, if it is attached drill a hole in the lowest rear side panel so the water can drain into the bilge.
