Thinking about a different Canadian fishing boat. Probably a tinny. Is gruman a decent boat? there is one for 3k for sale with a 90hp. it is a 184 superfish which I assume is a 18.5 foot boat. Is that enough hp for that boat. It is an out board boat. The year is 1990. Seems like a decent deal to me. Thanks in advance as always for your help. Bob

Re: gruman 184 superfish question

Yes Grumman is a good boat and it depends what 90 is on it, Evinrude/Johnson or a Mercury is fine, stay away from Force but 90 on an 18' boat is a good bit of power.

It should have a Jonnyrude on it, Grumman was an OMC company I believe until the later 90s.

Not much to go wrong with a tinny, check the transom out, you should be able to stand on the engine and not have the transom move more than 1/8'' and the general condition of the hull and make sure to look under the boat since that is where it would hit things.

Walk the deck and be sure it is solid with no soft spots and you should at least hear it run but actually taking it out and running it is way better but not likely in Wisconsin this time of year adn make sure all the electrical stuff works as it should.

Having the engine looked at by a marina will cost you some money but could also save you many times what it cost and is very reccomended.

Don't know where boat prices are in your part of the world but 3K seems right at the top for a 20 year old boat unless it is in really really nice condition.
