Wanting to change out my guages for next season because my tri-colored futuristic guages are too hard to read at a glance while underway. I'll use the white face with black pointer and number guages. My supplier tells me that I can use the senders for the new guages that are already there and that they are a standard marine sender for all guages. Is this right? Also they are all a standard size except for the tach and speedo which are larger. Are they telling me right about the existing sending units? thanks

Re: Guage replacement

Yes, most gauges use the same sending units, and the sizes are pretty standard.

Re: Guage replacement

I'm sure you're alright with the voltmeter and the fuel gauge, but you may need to match your temp. gauge with a sender. I had a bad sender on my rig and absolutely couldn't find one that gave me the correct indication with the original gauge. Had to replace 'em both with a new (matched) set. So I recommend that you check the calibration after the gauge replacement. Speedo should be okay as well.

Re: Guage replacement

Temperature gauges and senders for outboards are 33-240 ohms standard. It is the TRIM gauge that may need some attention. Trim senders are engine manufacturer specific and may require the manufacturers gauge or an aftermarket compatible unit,.
