Guess my weight & win a Prize (1 pic)

Just joking about the prize , but I plan on taking my boat out for the first time here in a couple hours & want to see if anyone can help me guess the weight of this boat.<br />My little S-10 bumper ball hitch says Max Weight 2000lbs, Tounge Weight 200lbs <br />Am I close to this? <br />Thanks for any quick help on this. <br />

More infor on length of boat, motor HP, etc. would be helpful.<br /><br />Based on what I see in the picture I would guess the following:<br /><br />Boat - 15' trihull fiberglass = 900 lbs<br />motor - 50 hp ? = 175 lbs<br />trailer = 500 lbs?<br />battery and gear = 400 lbs<br />Total = 1975<br /><br />But remember, that's just a guess. I'd suggest installing a frame mounted hitch on your s-10.

With a full tank of fuel and gear I'd say you're about spot on 2000 - possibly less.<br />Take it to a landfill site or gravel pit to be sure.

So....maybe I shouldn't attempt it? <br />I don't doubt the truck will pull it. I am afraid of what happens at the boat launch. They are quite angled & thinking it will make the boat that much heavier to pull out.<br />The fuel tank is empty as I am not using the outboard where I go.<br />It doesnt feel like 2000lbs. I can roll it around by myself.<br />Now I am reconsidering going

I would go for it. I dont think that rig is 2000 lbs, maybe close however your still under the rating of the bumber, perhaps you should install a frame mounted hitch to simply give you peice of mind. My friend had a '94 s10 with the bumper and we pulled a lot of loads with it and never had a problem.<br />-John

I'd say your Okay. I towed my 15' fiberglass trihull bowrider with a bumer hitvh for a few years. The boat was listed at 750 lbs, but I'm sure the foam is water logged. No live wells made it a little lighter.<br /><br />You'll be okay today. Just take it easy and allow plenty of acceleration and braking time.

Just because the bumper hitch is rated for 2000#, it does not mean the rest of the vehiclle is rated for that much.<br /><br />You don't mention what engine or trans you have, or the year of the truck.<br /><br />If you have the 4cyl or a manual trans, I would not do it.<br /><br />Best to stop by a dealership and have them "read" the equipment code on the truck.<br /><br />Just proves there is always a naysayer in the crowd.

I've seen many small truck bumpers rust from the inside out and rip the bumper right in half. Inspect it thoroughly when you get back from today's trip. I'm not a fan of towing much of anything with a bumper ball.

I pulled a 15 foot I/O with a truck like that, It has a 4cl manual trans and it pulled just fine It does have a frame hitch tho.

If you want exact weight, I agree with MajBach. Take your rig to a gravel pit or truck stop that has scales. I weighed my boat at a truck stop on CAT scales. Cost me $8.00.

I would go out and pop the 85 bucks and get a frame mounted hitch. Many times even if the bumper holds you will get a twisting of the rear bumper.<br /><br />The flexibility and strength of the reciever is a huge bonus. Bite the bullet and be safe.. <br /><br />Cool looking garage..........

I would just make sure to put everything you can into the bed of the truck rather than in the boat. Especially gas tanks...

Thanks everyone for all your input.<br />I just got back. I know, short trip, but it was mainly to get the boat in the water, see what I could do to improve it, practice launching, etc.<br />The boat did fine back there, however, my truck doesnt like it. Someone mentioned the engine, its a 4 cylinder with a manual trans. I could tell my truck was struggling. It suprised me at how well it did at the boat launch though. <br />I also failed to mention I have a full size van with a 3000lb frame hitch setup. However, it needs an alternator & insurance, which it will now get & how I will be pulling the boat from now on <br />Once again. Thanks everyone. Lesson learned.
