Wish we had winters like that. Normally we see at least a week where it never gets above -20F:eek:. Oh for the warm, winter days of 15-20.:D

Aint that the truth. And then when it does warm up 15F never felt so warm. You realize how hardy you are as a Minnesotan when you go skiing in Colorado well above 10,000 feet and aren't phased while everyone else in your party from other states are mystefied by the temps and conditions.

Wednesday morning temps in Northern Il got down to 30. There was frost on the ground. I moved my boat into my garage and kept a thermostat next to her. Temp at 5am in garage was 58 deg. Temp outside was 30 deg. Water in bird bath was frozen solid. I read post here on the old shop light light bulb trick and said something doesn't make sense. Keeping electricity on over night in a closed compartment with a full tank of gas in the tank. Nope. Next year though, I will not start my boat until mid may just because we get teased by a couple of mid 80 deg days in early April. I saw those freezing temps coming and it put a pit in my stomach all day Monday.

The other thing I noticed from reading posts on this topic, is the guys who say not to worry when it gets below freezing for only a couple of hours in the morning have outboard type engines, not i/o's?? Is there any difference, I think there is?

I'm just so confused as to why anybody would spend the time hanging a light bulb in their engine compartment and "hoping" that either A) it doesn't go out or B) it keeps things warm enough, when it takes all of 10-15 minutes to drain the water from the block/manifolds.:confused::confused:

I'm not trying to drag the OP in the mud any further than he is..just making a blanket statement.

I live in AZ and I did it..never froze here this winter, but I never left town and had to worry about a freak cold snap.
