Check this site out. I plan on giving this guy a try when I get back over in that area. I am on the east coast at the moment.

Yes Tammy ... and if you post the full size pic, I'll actually offer it to you! :D

Just kidding. Its a guy thing. We're required to act like morons every now and then! I forget which chapter of the Guy Handbook requires it, but its in there somewhere .... I swear! :D:D

You can buy fresh, dead shrimp, but live shrimp are better. Pick up a good sized bait bucket with a bubbler at you local outdoors store. From there, find a local boat ramp or marina that sells live shrimp. I find that about 25 shrimp per person provides a pretty good day of fishing. Hook the shrimp by piercing the tail at about midpoint, from one side to the other. This will not kill the shrimp, and allows it to move in the water. Also, don't leave the bucket in direct sunlight, because the water will get very warm, very quickly.

Have fun!

Ah, it's OK, "Tammy". [Removed link to full-sized photo of avatar.]

Doesn't sound like you need much advice about bait...for fishermen, at least. :D

Hey Tammy,

You can go to a pier and catch junk fish all day long if you want. However, if you want to catch some 'real' fish I suggest going east - Palm Beach, Stuart area. You are closer to deeper water and the opportunity for finding a cheap or reasonable charter boat is going to be better.
Here on the west coast our normal fishing day is running 25 plus miles offshore to find anything of value. Of course there are snapper, grouper - other bottom fish closer in. If you're into snook fishing then they can also be found in the bays, off the beach and in some deeper water as well.
I guess it all boils down to what you want to catch.
Another decent bait is live sardines.
There is a ton of info on the web for your adventure. Have fun.

Hi Jay,
Do I need weight, or a float or can I just cast it out and drag it in?

You can fish live shrimp in a couple of different ways. To fish the bait near the surface, attached a float about 24" up the line from the bait. The bobber type floats that can be moved along the line work pretty well. You may end up wanting a little more or less depth, so being able to move the float after initial placement is handy.

You can also bottom fish the bait by making a "Carolina Rig," which is just an arrangement where the sinker is positioned upline of the bait. Here's a link for a page that will show you how to make one ...

I'm amazed at how much you can catch with the right bait. they just bite and bite. I think you got it.
